Your Guide to the 41st Annual Kennett Square Mushroom Festival

Kennett Square's biggest weekend of the year is here. The 41st Annual Mushroom Festival takes over downtown State Street on Saturday, September 12 (10 AM–6 PM) and Sunday, September 13 (9 AM–4 PM) — and if you haven't been before, it's worth clearing your calendar for.

Why This Festival Is a Big Deal

Kennett Square produces nearly two-thirds of all commercial mushrooms grown in the United States, which is exactly why this town — and this festival — has earned the nickname "Mushroom Capital of the World." What started decades ago as a small, one-block local celebration has grown into a nationally recognized event that draws well over 100,000 visitors across the two days.

It's also for a good cause: proceeds support the festival's community grants program, which has awarded more than $1.6 million over the years to local education, health care, arts, and community projects.

What to Expect

• Mushroom Growers Exhibit — an interactive, walk-through look at how mushrooms actually go from spore to harvest, with real growers on hand to answer questions
• The Mushroom "Chopped" Competition — local chefs face off using mushrooms as the star ingredient, with rounds running throughout the weekend
• Live music and roaming entertainment — bands, street performers, and surprise acts keep energy high across the festival grounds all weekend
• Kids Zone — activities for younger festival-goers, alongside the Culinary Stage and Music Stage
• Food and craft vendors — everything from fried mushrooms and mushroom soup to mushroom-themed crafts and goods lines the festival footprint

Good to Know Before You Go

• Entry is $5 per person and covers both festival days — you'll get a wristband, and it's cash or Venmo only
• Parking is available at Kennett High School and Chatham Financial (with accessible parking at the latter), though independently operated lots nearby charge separately and don't support the festival
• It's fully walkable and stroller-friendly, with accessible restrooms and parking available
• The fun starts before Saturday, too — Kennett Collaborative's weekly Farmers Market gets in on the spirit beforehand, and several downtown spots roll out mushroom-themed specials leading into the weekend
